About the Role
WLGA is developing a Transition and Recovery Support programme for local authorities, funded by Welsh Government. The programme is intended to help local authorities as they plan for transition to a greener, post-covid recovery through the provision of support, advice, guidance, and a collective voice on these issues. Part of the programme is focused on mitigation, based on the four themes of Welsh Government’s decarbonisation route map: procurement, transport, buildings and land use. In addition, the programme aims to provide advice and support on adaptation/resilience, dealing with food, energy and water security, flood risk management and other issues anticipated as a result of increased frequency of extreme weather events.
This post will be responsible, specifically, for supporting work within the WLGA’s Regeneration & Sustainable Development Team in the following areas:
- The planning and land use elements of mitigation, including land use planning, carbon sequestration, use of public land holdings for renewable energy generation.
- Sustainable management of natural resources, nature recovery and adaptation to deal with flood and coastal risk (including Sustainable Urban Drainage schemes) and risks associated with extreme weather events (including coal tip safety).
