NERS Community Falls Prevention Intervention

The NERS Community Falls Prevention Intervention is currently being piloted in seven areas. It provides an opportunity for patients to attend an evidence based exercise programme designed to reduce the risk of falls and is led by qualified postural stability Instructors.

The scheme is based on best practice from the UK current evidence base and operates to national standards. It has been supported by Welsh Government, Later Life training, Local Authorities, National Public Health Service and Local Health Boards.

Principal aims of the scheme:

  1. To offer a systematic and safety controlled system of referral to NERS Community Falls Prevention Intervention
  2. To offer a systematic and safety controlled system of referral to suitable independent exercise
  3. To provide safe and effective Falls Prevention that complies with National standards
  4. To increase the patients strength, balance and co-ordination
  5. To increase the patients functional ability
  6. To increase the patients bone density and muscle mass
  7. To increase the patients confidence
  8. To increase the patients mental health and well being
  9. To decrease the patients social isolation
  10. To increase the patients long term adherence to physical activity

Quality Standards:

  • All protocols used on the scheme represent the best known practice and meet with current national guidelines
  • All exercise professionals operating the scheme are trained to NVQ Level 3, have a qualification that meets occupational standard D449 working with referred patients and a Later Life Postural stability Instructor qualification
  • All exercise professionals are suitably insured and registered with Register of exercise Professionals (REP’s)
