Marking Loneliness Awareness Week, Councillor Jane Mudd (Newport), WLGA Spokesperson for Wellbeing said:
“Perhaps more than ever before, we have all seen the importance of connection and community over the past 18 months. Loneliness and isolation can have a huge impact on people’s mental wellbeing and their quality of life. Council run local services can help provide people with somewhere to turn to for support, or to connect with other residents.”
“From a range of social care services to leisure centres and community assets, our local authorities provide innumerable life enhancing services which can help people in our communities to make connections. Such spaces will be needed more than ever as we begin the long road to recover from the pandemic.”
“Our local services are the glue which hold our communities together. With additional investment in these preventative services, we can help to make sure that no-one is left behind or has to suffer alone.”
