Responding to the Welsh Government’s announcement of additional capital funding for local government as part of an investment package to support Wales in the event of a no-deal Brexit, WLGA Leader Councillor Debbie Wilcox (Newport) said:

“Whilst we await the finer details from Welsh Government, I warmly welcome the Minister for Finance and Trefnydd’s announcement of the commitment of additional funding for local government. Brexit uncertainty continues to punctuate local authorities’ ability to plan ahead, and the risk of a no-deal scenario still looms large as a very real and concerning prospect.”

“Whatever the final Brexit outcome, the reality is that our most vulnerable people will still need to be cared for, our children will still need to be educated, our roads will still need to be maintained, and our residents will still need access to good quality affordable housing. Local authorities’ ability to do this relies on services being funded fairly, and we will look forward to continuing discussions with our colleagues in Welsh Government to ensure that our vital local services are empowered and resilient to manage the risks of the future.”
