WLGA responds to provisional local government settlement

Tuesday, 16 October 2012

Responding to the provisional local government settlement, Councillor Aaron Shotton (Flintshire), Deputy Leader and Spokesperson for Finance and Resources commented:

“The WLGA welcomes the settlement which, despite the difficult financial climate, provides sustained core funding for local authorities in Wales and continues to provide a comparatively better settlement than England. We particularly welcome the approach to protecting education and social services.

“There are some issues highlighted in the Minister's statement, including the announcement of a regional collaboration fund, which the WLGA will be discussing further with the 22 Council leaders at our next Co-ordinating Committee. We recognise the need to work together to deliver services and will work constructively with the Welsh Government on the details of how this is best achieved using the funding available.”
