Shaping tomorrow's social care services today

Monday, 15 October 2012

Future and current leaders of social care services in Wales have been celebrated at an event to mark the success of the National Team Manager Development Programme (TMDP).

The programme is the first accredited course of its type in the UK, and has been designed to help improve social care services and outcomes in Wales. Over 200 students have enrolled on the course and, to date, 77 percent of students have completed with Distinction, Merit or Pass.

Celebrated at a workshop hosted in Llandrindod Wells by the SSIA and ADSS Cymru, the students met colleagues from across Wales and the UK to acknowledge their achievements and also the impact the course is currently having on social care delivery.

With the application of student’s learning to current practice playing a central role in the course, the event also allowed social care agencies to consult the students on their experiences and to investigate ways of utilising their knowledge to develop and improve social care provision in Wales.

Ellis Williams, lead Director on Workforce for ADSSC said:

“We recognised a few years ago that there was a key group of managers in Social Services – Fieldwork Team Managers – whose training and development needs had not been properly recognised and addressed. This was an all Wales problem which required an all Wales solution. Working closely with Team Managers and Training Officers, IPC designed and then were commissioned to deliver a custom built programme that is focussed on delivering quality outcomes for service users. There’s no doubt the programme has delivered for participants, their teams, sponsoring Authorities and most importantly for service users. A Welsh success that we can all, in the industry, be very proud of.”
