The WLGA welcomes the announcement today that Cardiff City Council's education service no longer requires Estyn monitoring.
The announcement means that there are now no local authority education services in Wales in any Estyn category.
Over the last cycle of local authority Estyn inspections a number of local authorities were placed in Estyn monitoring while a smaller number were deemed to be in need of significant improvement. All local authorities in Estyn monitoring have now been judged to have made the necessary progress and improvements, and have been removed from this category following Estyn monitoring visits.
A WLGA spokesperson said:
"The news today has been welcomed across local government, and it is a testament to the hard work and commitment of all local authorities who have moved out of Estyn category. It is now important that we ensure that improvement continues, and is sustainable and that the system as a whole learns lessons from the experience of the last few years."
